Accessibility statement
I want jetzt-uebersetzt.de to be usable by everyone. This statement describes where the site stands, lists the content that is not yet accessible, and tells you how to report a barrier.
Scope and legal basis
This statement covers the website jetzt-uebersetzt.de in German and English. No law requires this website to be accessible: the rules for public bodies (Directive (EU) 2016/2102, BITV 2.0) do not apply to private providers, and Germany’s Accessibility Strengthening Act (BFSG) covers services for consumers. My services are for businesses, and work is commissioned through an inquiry, not an online order. As a micro-enterprise, I would be exempt for services anyway (section 3(3) BFSG). I publish this statement voluntarily. I measure the site against EN 301 549, the European standard public bodies use for their websites, which incorporates WCAG 2.1 at level AA.
Conformance status
This website partially conforms with WCAG 2.1 level AA: the assessment identified improvements as well as remaining barriers. The known limitations are listed in the next section. The checks included the following:
- You can reach and operate every control with a keyboard, without getting trapped, and the keyboard focus is clearly visible throughout.
- A “Skip to content” link is the first element on every page and takes you straight to the main content.
- Text has a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 in both light and dark mode, and controls and form fields at least 3:1.
- Links in running text don’t rely on color alone.
- Pages fit any screen from 320 pixels wide without horizontal scrolling, work at 200% zoom, and hold up with larger line, word and letter spacing.
- Every page has exactly one main heading, headings in a logical order, marked-up regions (header, navigation, main content, footer) and the right language setting.
- Images have text alternatives, and purely decorative graphics are hidden from screen readers. The site has no video or audio.
- Every field in the contact form has a label, and the form explains which fields are required. Error messages appear as text next to the field, and after you submit, focus moves to the first error.
- You can stop and restart the background animation with “Pause animation” in the footer. Your choice is remembered between pages. The site also respects your operating system’s reduced-motion setting, and moving lines are kept out of text and control areas.
- Without JavaScript, the content, the contact form and the search still work; on narrow screens you can then reach every page through the footer.
- Other-language passages and source titles in the blog have language markup for screen readers. The terminology glossary is a table with column and row headers.
- The PDF résumés are tagged and have a text layer. The portrait is explicitly marked decorative; the person’s name appears beside it as text.
Content that is not accessible
Third-party content. Appointment booking on the contact page comes from TidyCal and only loads after you click “Load Calendar.” You can use it with a keyboard, but it has weaknesses: on some buttons the keyboard focus is hard to see, the weekday labels have too little contrast, the interface is in English even on the German page, and on very narrow screens the calendar scrolls sideways. You can also set up a call by email, by phone or through the contact form on the same page. The site also links to sources from other providers, including PDF documents, and their accessibility is outside my control.
How this statement was prepared
This statement was prepared on November 2, 2026. It is based on an assessment I carried out myself in November 2026, using automated checks (Lighthouse, axe) and manual keyboard, focus and contrast checks in light and dark mode. The checks used Chrome; testing with real screen readers such as VoiceOver or NVDA and with other browsers is still outstanding. The statement was last reviewed on November 4, 2026. I review it once a year and whenever the site changes substantially.
